Discourse on happiness, and righteousness, peace, & joy

January 24, 2012

 From a forum thread:

Much happier to thank God for discomfort than in discomfort.

More righteousness and peace and joy.

“More righteousness and peace and joy.”

Got a Scripture for that?

But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: (1 Corinthians 1:30)

One who is born again is the righteousness of God in Christ. How can you gain more? If there is a way that you can, then your righteousness is not of faith; it’s of works.

If one takes the trouble to trace back the dialogue, it seems that it is the enjoyment, not the procurement, of righteousness and peace and joy that is in view.

God provides these things to the elect through the great instruments of faith, hope, and love, largely respectively.

One difficulty that gets in your way of understanding this is, possibly, your holding to the popular, but obviously erroneous, position that the begotten again Christian is accounted to be righteous, rather than made righteous.
