Music to study by, now & then

“STUDY HARD ANTHEM v2.0 – HSC Edition – YouTube http://bit.ly/tXsW8J “ Link provided by Facebook friend and hard working student.

In the good old days (prior to 1959) fear was used to promote good study habits. Including forced singing of this funereal type song. Because of modern ignorance “mother” has been substituted for “mater” in the lyrics as link. And posture not mentioned. Properly sung on knees with forehead and palms on ground for the “Amen”. Audio, lyrics, and sheet music at link. RPI Freshman Hymn http://bit.ly/ujabnD

Upper classmen could demand freshmen to sing the tune at any time on campus. The traditions associated with the song were abolished in 1959. The song thereafter remained a nostalgic tune.  /  / Ah Me My Poor Freshie    /  / Ah! Me! My poor Freshie, / Ah! Me! My poor Freshie, / What will thy [mater] say to thee, / When [thou goest] home with N.S.E. /  / Thy [mater] she will say to thee, / Thy [mater] she will say to thee, / My darling boy, I greatly fear, / That you’ve been drinking Lager Beer  / Amen /

Old fashioned 19th century biblical wisdom is reflected in the great Freshman Hymn. “Lev 19:3 KJV – Ye shall fear every man his mother and [father]  – Bible Gateway http://bit.ly/tk3qq4 “ Father is first in honor. Mother is first in fear (or reverence).
